I disagree. They may hate us for that reason, but they attacked us because of perceived weakness. You can read bin Laden’s fatwa online. He cites Vietnam, Beirut and Somalia as examples of what would happen if America was in a war for longer than a year. Was he wrong? I look through your site, Mr. Sullivan, and see that he was not.
