The editors at Human Event are endorsing Thompson for the nomination. It breaks down what’s wrong, from a conservative viewpoint, with the other candidates pretty well.
On Thompson:
“Thompson’s record is solid on voting to preserve gun owners’ rights, cut taxes, reduce government spending and drill for oil in Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. He has voted consistently against gay marriage. “
Plus it throws him a pretty hefty guantlet.
“The question now is whether Sen. Thompson will do what he has not yet done: Take the advantages he is given by his intelligence, his principles, his political skills and this endorsement and make the best use of them. “
If last night was any indication, he finally maybe on the right track.

What’s interesting is the post-debate commentary about Thompson’s performance. You can pretty much sum it up as, “well it’s ’bout damn time, Fred!”
Which I concur with.
I think Fred will get bigger numbers at the polls if people start believing that he could win in the general election. But that faith without works in the primary elections is dead, I’m afraid.
